Since joining Her Campus UCF, I always knew that I wanted to have a leadership position in the organization. Part of it was because I wanted the resume booster, but the other part was that I wanted to contribute to an organization that helped give me an outlet while I was in college. It didn’t work out when I was in undergrad, but I can proudly say that this past spring I became the Events Director for Her Campus UCF.
This is a very unique position for me, because I don’t know if I ever really wanted to be in events prior to getting the position. I had applied because of my initial desire to be more involved, and there was a part of me that wanted to dabble in something aside from writing. Getting this position gave me the opportunity to do that, and I’ve been able to do some pretty cool things, so I wanted to go into that a little bit more today.

Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium Campaign
Since Her Campus is a media company, there are some really cool opportunities to work with brands. Yves Saint Laurent is a major beauty brand, and they released Black Opium back in February. We got some samples, and it truly smells luxurious. I kind of wish we hadn’t, because I fell in love with the smell, and I have to live off of the sample size that I took because I can’t really find a place in my budget to purchase a full-size bottle.
Since we knew about this a little before February, we planned a little Galentine’s Day event to promote the perfume. It was a fun break from the normal routine: we made Valentines, decorated cookies, had a Secret Cupid book exchange, and watched the movie Valentine’s Day.

Sun Bum and Sustainability
When I think of Sun Bum, I think of sunscreen, but they have expanded further into the beauty space. For this campaign, we were promoting skincare products (facial cleanser and daily SPF moisturizer) and hair products (shampoo and conditioner). It was the perfect time for me to work on this campaign, since I was in the process of finding a new SPF for my face and spring break was right around the corner. Maybe it is not shocking that I love the daily moisturizer SPF, since it is the thing that Sun Bum is kind of known for.
The unique component of this campaign was the fact that Sun Bum wanted to sustainbility component to how we promoted the product. I came up with the idea to upcycle clothing. Our members could do some spring cleaning and donate clothes that they would no longer wear, and then we would trade and hand out Sun Bum products with every swap or exchange of clothing.

Fenty Beauty and Hella Thicc TikToks
After her amazing Superbowl performance this year, I feel like I became more infaturated by Rhianna than ever before. Imagine my face when, a week or two after the Superbowl, I learn that Her Campus UCF got a campaign to promote Fenty Beauty’s new mascara (hint: you could see the whites of my eyes).
This campaign didn’t really require an event. There was more of a push to create content for TikTok, which is what really pushed me into joining TikTok and becoming a more active user. It was a little interesting though, because a week or two later, the state of Florida banned the use of TikTok and a few other social media platforms from being used on the campuses of public universities. Luckily, we could still film and share the content from the comfort of our homes. Who really knows though, because Montana has become the first state to ban the social media app as a whole.

Estee Lauder’s Nutritious Line
The last campaign of the semester was with Estee Lauder to promote their new Nutritious line. We got to sample their Nutritious 2-in-1 Foaming Cleanser and Nutritious Melting Soft Creme/Mask, and they gave us some merch to wear, like headbands while we do skincare and popsockets for our phones.
There were two components to the events we hosted for this campaign. Since it took place around finals, we had a self-care pajama party with fun and nutritious snacks and self-care elements like a manicure station and adult coloring books. It was a night to unwind before finals, and we really just got comfortable in our pajamas to relax and go back to our childhood watching Aquamarine. The second event was yoga, so that we could do an activity that would really put us in the moment.

These are my highlights for my first semester of being the Events Coordinator for Her Campus UCF, and if you ask me, I would say it's pretty cool. I have one more year left, and I’m excited to see what campaigns we get and what kind of events they’ll inspire.
